she-whispers:

There is a substantial disconnect between the worlds of our parents and our own. If you think about it, your parents had you to themselves for years - including the hopes and dreams of being a parent and the nine months of anxiously waiting - up until you were old enough to start going out and they had to trust their little baby would be okay out there in the “real world”. You used to be that toddler who cuddled them, who kissed them when they got home, who cried for them when you missed them. You used to be that child who needed a kiss when you fell, who needed help getting dressed in the morning. Then as you aged, they only saw you when we were home (however many hours you actually spent it there). They could only see what they saw, but there is a whole different you that exists when you’re with your friends, your peers, who you are outside/inside. How you handle your problems and your thought processes. Those are things that aren’t always shared with your parents because there is this fear of tainting your image and there are certain things we feel as though we should never mention to them. I think that’s what causes so much anger, it’s what triggers the impatience; the fear, the misunderstandings, the lack of perspectives. We take them for granted because we are so focused on our own realities, it’s all about you you you. What you want, what you couldn’t get, what you think you deserve.

When I was younger, I never agreed to my mom’s reasons as to why dating at the age of 12 was too young. I thought I was mature enough. I thought she was just being a controlling mother, of course. Now that I look back at it, even for the couples who are dating in high school, you guys are fucking young (all arguments made against this is irrelevant). There is so much left to explore, so much left to learn, the world is full of possibilities and a relationship should have been the last of my concern; as it is now.

But hey, you live and you learn.
